My focus in life was my children, building a life with my little family, and pursuing the American dream together. My girls attended the 92nd St. Y nursery school, and one afternoon I met another parent who complimented the jewellery I was wearing.
Upon finding out that I designed it myself, he commissioned me to design a piece for his wife. Then, another. And then, another.
Then, a few pairs of cuff links for himself. My entrance into jewellery design was unique in that I began designing only for men. My personal aesthetic is tomboyish and full of subtle masculinity, so designing for them was a natural fit. I landed a meeting with the mens accessories buyer at Bergdorf Goodman in 1995; she stood me up.
I was getting to ready to leave when Arthur Cook, the GMM at the time, passed me on his way out of the office. He stopped in his tracks and offered to meet with me.
