Respiratory diseases
Asthma
Asthma is a reversible chronic inflammation of the larger airways. It is usually characterized by episodic wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath with activity.
The most important point in the treatment of asthma is adequate controlling of inflammation. Untreated or undertreated asthma over time will turn to irreversible scarring of the airways.
At this point, there are no effective treatments for asthma. If the patient has typical symptoms they usually seek medical treatment. Children, adolescents, and younger athletes are the ones who wont recognize the symptoms of mild asthma.
Its critical to screen and treat the disease in these group and prevent lifetime scarring of the lungs which will translate to lifetime irreversible symptoms of asthma.
